- There has been (I think) 3 ROM upgrades since V.FC. Your friend should get
- the upgrade...there have been many improvements, including upgrading the
- highest possible connect speed from 28,800 to 33,600. Take a look at my
- modem page for a little more info about the Sportster upgrade.
-
- USR says:
-
- "An upgrade ROM chip replacement containing the new 33.6 software is available
- for owners of current V.34 Sportsters. The upgrade chip cost is $24.95 plus shipping --
- contact USR customer support at 708-982-5151 to order."
-
- Since your friend's modem is not V.34, he will be buying the upgrade to V.34 -- don't
- know if USR will provide the 33.6 rom or the 28.8 rom -- he will have to talk that out
- with them. He may need to pay for 2 upgrades, but maybe not.
-
- Good luck.
